Using the Epic Baits Underspin to Target Big Bass

Suspended bass can be some of the toughest fish to catch, but Bass Pro Tour angler Dean Rojas trusts the Epic Baits Under Spin paired with a Big Bite Baits Pro Swimmer to get the job done.

Designed to mimic a variety of baitfish, the Epic Under Spin delivers lifelike flash and vibration that perfectly complement the swimming action of the Pro Swimmer. This combo excels for targeting offshore bass on forward-facing sonar, slow-rolling over deep brush, or swimming around boat docks. Rojas focuses on keeping his presentation just above the fish, using his electronics to locate suspended bait and bass. He mixes in subtle pauses and twitches to make the blade flare and mimic a fleeing shad—an action that often triggers aggressive strikes.

When a fish bites, Rojas avoids jerking the rod, instead maintaining steady pressure until it loads up to ensure a solid hook-set. He fishes the setup on a 7-foot medium-heavy casting rod with a 6.3:1 reel and 10-pound Sunline FC Sniper, choosing a 3/16-ounce head for shallower targets or heavier 3/8- to 1/2-ounce versions for deeper fish. To keep his trailer secure after multiple bites, he adds a small drop of superglue at the head.

Whether he’s chasing suspended schools offshore or methodically covering structure, Rojas counts on the Epic Baits Under Spin and Big Bite Baits Pro Swimmer combination to deliver the realism, balance, and performance needed to catch more fish.
